Katrina

More than a week later, I am still glued to Fox News Channel or any news outlet regarding what is going on in the devastated areas of the Gulf Coast. What saddens me most is that it has taken this long for the media to focus on the part of the story that actually matters...the people. For a week all I have heard is "The Government has failed", "The President has failed us", or my favorite "If this happened to White people...blah, blah, blah!" The fact is that No One could have possibly know what it would take to get supplies into these cities, or the people out. Plans were in place, but when it came down to it, it just wasn't enough. Nothing like this has ever happened in our history. Why do people want to resort in pointing fingers instead of shutting their mouths and just doing something about the situation? I just got through watching Oprah, and of course, as only Oprah can do I saw some gut wreching stuff! The people lying dead on the side of the road or in the middle of the street, just covered up by sheets because no one has the time or anywhere to put them. Right now people are refusing to leave a city that has been declared uninhabitable, so the law enforcers have to focus on making them leave before they can take care of the deceased. This is probably the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. I just hope that somehow this country "the media" can start focusing on rebuilding and getting these people back on their feet, rather than focusing who was to blame for a NATURAL DISASTER. :)
I know that there is a reason why this occured and where it occured. But I also know that good will come of it. In tragedies, people are searching for something, anything. It is a perfect opportunity for the Christian community to reach out.
I have much more to say and have actually said it to my family in the past week, but that's it for now. I'm up way too late and I have to get up at the crack of dawn to catch a flight to Sunny California. :) I get to take my little brother to see the ocean for the first time. How fun is that? Oh yeah, and I have to work. And, Amber, BB6 was great tonight! Go Janelle! We will discuss tomorrow how weird it is that the "Friendship" still talks about "Cappy" (GAG) and does everything in honor of him. It gives me the heebie jeebies.
